Pizzonia lied, says Webber

NEWS STORY

Although Mark Webber has cultivated a 'Mr Nice Guy' image, reports in the Italian media suggest that he could (sadly) be one of those drivers that uses the media to slag off rivals and teammates, much like another former Jaguar driver.

The Australian has accused Antonio Pizzonia of lying about his treatment at Jaguar, totally refuting claims that he received preferential treatment to the Brazilian.

"He knows he's been telling lies," Webber is said to have told Gazzetta dello Sport. "He says his car was different from mine? It's bullshit, but if he really thinks so, he's a loser. The truth is that Antonio was fast in testing, but couldn't do as well in the races.

"This year, when he took over from Gene (who was replacing the injured Ralf Schumacher), he did well, but he didn't have too much pressure on him because he had nothing to lose. Things change when you are the race driver. In this case the responsibilities are much bigger. Especially if you're at the wheel of a Williams."

With Antonio widely tipped to fill the second seat alongside Webber, it looks as if the Grove outfit could have another brace of drivers with little time for one another, and though outsiders might find such a scenario unhelpful when it comes to creating team spirit, team boss Frank Williams enjoys seeing his drivers 'going at it'.

The truth is however, that Pizzonia was shamefully treated by Jaguar, and team members have admitted to this, saying that the situation could have "been handled better".

On the other hand, there are already those that worry that the team's technical director, Sam Michael, may favour his fellow-Aussie, no matter who is, or who should have been, in the second car.
