Button to part company with manager Byfield?

Within the paddock, it's widely believed that whatever the result of the Contract Recognition board's meeting in Milan on Saturday, there is one move that Jenson Button will be making - to a new manager.

The word on the street is that Button is seriously unhappy with the way the move was handled, especially the way he has been made to look like the 'bad guy'. Although it is claimed that team boss David Richards fed information to the media, it's widely believed that Button's management was also working on this angle.

It's no secret that Richard's and Byfield do not like one another, indeed the mutual resentment was there long before the current contract debacle. It's been said that Richards doesn't like seeing Byfield in the team motorhome, but that a special clause has been written into the English driver's contract.

Button was previously managed by David Robertson, but switched to Byfield, and his Essentially Sport company three years ago, on the advice of his father, John. It's believed that Button senior is also in favour of the move to WilliamsF1.

In addition to looking after the affairs of Button, Mr Byfield and partner Russell King have been involved in trying to put together a consortium with the intention of buying the Jordan F1 team. However despite continuous claims that a deal with the royal family of Dubai was imminent, said 'deal' appears to have gone cold, not that it was ever very warm.

Many say that Jenson has been deeply affected by some of the negative media in recent months, and that the way in which the WilliamsF1 move was handled is not the way he likes to do business. That said, it is thought that the youngster's contract with Byfield is watertight and therefore very, very difficult to get out of.

Some have compared Mr Byfield - a lawyer turned driver manager - to Michael Breen, another lawyer, who took over the affairs of Damon Hill. Some say that Damon changed dramatically once Mr Breen got involved, that he became difficult, less accessible. Some say that Jenson is treading a similar path.
