Jacques wants BAR return

NEWS STORY
14/08/2004

The Sun (who else?) is reporting that Jacques Villeneuve wants to return to the team that he helped created, and which ultimately, under the guidance of David Richards, dumped him.

Talking to the British tabloid, the 1997 world champion says that he believes that in the wake of the Button debacle, he alone would be the perfect solution. He also makes clear that that he is willing to 'bury the hatchet' as far as Richards is concerned.

"David Richards and I have had our differences but I believe we can put everything behind us," said the Canadian. "I'm sure we can sort things out and work together on making the team go forward because BAR are true front-runners.

"Ferrari are the best," he continued, "but after them it's BAR, the only team that can worry Michael Schumacher.

"I've spoken to David," he revealed, "and it would be good if something can be worked out but we have to wait and see what happens to Jenson. "I want to get back into F1 and fight at the front. I've been watching the races on TV this season and I've been training since the winter. I'm hungry for a return.

"By the end of last season there were political problems, coupled with few results on the track, but the problems I had with David are no longer an issue."

Jacques' willingness to return to the team, will have the Canadian's many fans salivating, but in all honesty let's look at the source of this story, whilst remembering that there isn't a single comment from Richards.

In a separate story the paper reveals that Michael Schumacher sent a shudder through F1 yesterday when he eclipsed last year's pole time in free practice. No mention was made of the fact that McLaren's Kimi Raikkonen went 0.7s quicker in the second session.

Surprisingly, the paper doesn't have any quotes - a rarity - from Eddie Irvine, giving his opinion of the Button saga.
