Parity for Webber and Button

NEWS STORY
11/08/2004

Assuming the Jenson Button fiasco results in the Englishman re-joining WilliamsF1, the 24-year-old with have equal status with teammate Mark Webber.

"Both drivers have the same status," technical director Sam Michael told the Sydney Morning Herald, "there's nothing in either of their contracts that puts them above either of the other driver. They both have the quality clauses that says that they both must receive the same treatment."

Whereas F1 fans lament the lack of competition between the two Ferrari teammates, WilliamsF1 - which regards the Constructors' Championship as paramount - has always enjoyed seeing its drivers race one another, even if it is detrimental to team harmony, and race results.

"We always make sure that both race drivers have got exactly the right equipment," added Michael "Both cars are identical from that point of view."
