Ocon sets pace on Day 2 at Silverstone

Mercedes development driver, Esteban Ocon, who is also test and reserve with Renault, topped the timesheets at lunchtime on the final day of the second in-season test.

Setting the early pace, the Frenchman subsequently lost out to Jolyon Palmer and Kimi Raikkonen but retook the top spot once he switched to the soft tyres.

Whilst Raikkonen consolidated second place, Palmer was eventually leapfrogged by Red Bull's Pierre Gasly.

Taking over the McLaren MP4-31 from yesterday's pace-setter, Fernando Alonso, Stoffel Vandoorne is currently fifth quickest.

As Santino Ferrucci and Nikita Mazepin enjoyed their second ever day in an F1 car, they were joined by Brazilian rookie Sergio Sette Camara, who is on duty for Toro Rosso.

Busiest driver this morning was Pascal Wehrlein, who continues his testing duties for Pirelli driving the 2014 Mercedes on tyres built to 2017 construction and compound but in 2016 sizes.

There are fears that this afternoon will see the return of weather conditions similar to those that compromised yesterday afternoon's programme.
