McLaren has denied claims that it is on the verge of announcing its 2016 driver line-up.

According to reports in the Italian and Spanish media, Fernando Alonso will be partnered by Stoffel Vandoorne, the Belgian currently cruising to the GP2 title. The reports also claim that the line-up will be confirmed at the next race (Spa).

However, when contacted by Pitpass, a spokesman for the Woking team insisted that the reports are incorrect.

"The reports are inaccurate,” the spokesman told us. “No driver announcement will be made at Spa. On the contrary, we will discuss, decide and announce our 2016 driver line-up when the time is right."

Whilst Vandoorne has been linked with the second seat for some time, the team has an option on Jenson Button, who in recent week has been linked with Williams.

With Kevin Magnussen also in the mix, the team, which scored a double points finish last time out in Hungary, clearly has an embarrassment of riches.
