Someone who won't be driving for Williams

NEWS STORY
26/05/2004

As the list of potential WilliamsF1 drivers for 2005 gets ever-longer, and in some cases ever-sillier, one name can be removed before we go any further.

Reigning IRL Champion Scott Dixon, who has had a couple of successful tests with the Grove outfit, has agreed a new multi-year contract with Target/Chip Ganassi Racing.

"I very happy to continue to drive with Target Chip Ganassi Racing for the next few years," said the 23-year-old Kiwi. "They've always proven that they were committed to winning and we did that together. There is more that we can do together. I want to defend my championship and I want to win the Indianapolis 500. We can now concentrate exclusively on doing that this year and next year and the year after that as well."

Dixon has tested for WilliamsF1 twice this year, at Paul Ricard in late March, and again at Barcelona in early April, leading many F1 insiders to predict that a switch to F1 was inevitable, indeed many predicted he would link up at WilliamsF1 in 2005 with fellow Antipodean Mark Webber.

Despite close links with Toyota, the Japanese outfit recently revealed that it was not considering the youngster.
