Following previous reports it seems unlikely that former Williams, Sauber and Jordan star Heinz-Harald Frentzen will switch to IRL in 2004.

The German previously told Auto Bild: "I can easily imagine a switch to the US. As a passionate race driver, other kinds of driving excite me, even on an oval."

Heinz-Harald, who is up against stiff opposition for one of the the few remaining F1 seats available, had been linked with the IRL series and in particular a possible drive with (former F1 racer) Eddie Cheever's team.

However Frentzen's manager Monty Field has dismissed the idea: "We had looked at it," he told Autosport magazine, "and we spoke with Eddie when we were over in the US for the grand prix. But we have now discounted it."

The German has also been linked with a move to DTM.
