Racing Point to remain... Racing Point

Despite its plans to find a new name ahead of its first full season in F1, Racing Point will continue to operate as Racing Point.

Racing Point was the name used by Lawrence Stroll's consortium when it bought Force India last summer.

Under the rules which stipulate that the chassis name could not be changed, even though it is a new team, the team was called Racing Point Force India for the remainder of the season.

While team boss Otmar Szafnauer said that the name would be changed before the start of the season - the team referred to as Racing Point F1 Team in the FIAS's official entry list - admitting that he doesn't like the name - it appears the Silverstone-based outfit will continue as Racing Point.

It's understood that the team attempted to secure the rights to several former teams, including Lola, but were unsuccessful, and as a result will continue as Racing Point. Indeed, it is the Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team that got to change its name, last week becoming Alfa Romeo Racing.

Why Stroll and his team wanted the name Lola or couldn't come up with a more inspiring team name is something we shall no doubt learn in time.

Taking to social media this morning, the Silverstone-base team confirmed that its 2019 "handle" on Twitter will be @RAcingPointF1. However, its new logo is unlikely to be revealed until next Wednesday (February 13) when the team's 'new' identity will be unveiled in Toronto.
