Pirelli skips supersofts for Germany

As in China, when Pirelli opted to miss out on the supersofts, leaping straight from softs to ultras, the Italian manufacturer has chosen the same compound range for the German Grand Prix in July.

As in China, the German Grand Prix will see the medium, softs and ultrasofts in use.

One set of mediums and one set of softs must be available for the race and one of them must be used at some point in the race, while the ultrasoft is the assigned tyre for Q3 in qualifying.

The German Grand Prix was last held at Hockenheim in 2016 when the compounds were significantly harder than they are this time around.

At that time the medium, soft and supersoft compounds were available, with race-winner Lewis Hamilton - on the a three-stop strategy - starting on supersofts before further stints on softs, supersofts and finally softs again.

Only one driver in the top ten, Valtteri Bottas, then with Williams, was on a two-stop strategy.
