Video: McLaren fires up its new Renault engine

Anyone who has seen Grand Prix Driver on Amazon will be aware that from the outset, McLaren's 2017 season was clearly doomed.

Having encountered various issues marrying up the all-new Honda engine to the MCL32, the initial fire-up was a dismal failure as there appeared to be an issue with the electrics resulting in the team having to fire up the car manually.

No such issues a year later for the Woking team, albeit with a new engine partner, having dumped Honda and its Yen in favour of a customer deal with Renault.

Two days after Toro Rosso fired up the Honda, subsequently joking that all went well despite the continuing pessimism in the media surrounding the project, McLaren fired up its own 2018 contender.

"Sound on, volume up," declares the Woking team on Twitter as it allows fans to share the experience.

Then again, as we learned from Grand Prix Driver, any team will only reveal the successful fire-ups.

That said, after the damp squids - one for fans of The IT Crowd - that were the Haas and Williams reveals, it's great to actually have something that creates some genuine excitement.
