Liberty Media's buy-out of F1 has cleared one of its first hurdles, antitrust approval.

Announcing the proposed buy-out in September, Liberty Media admitted that there were three hurdles that needed to be cleared before the deal could proceed - that and finding the money.

The first is the approval of Liberty's shareholders who are due to meet next month.

The second is the approval of the sport's governing body, the FIA.

Finally, the deal needed to be cleared by antitrust authorities in a number of countries affected, and according to Liberty this has been achieved.

The company has announced that it has received all required approvals from all appropriate anti-trust authorities in connection with its pending acquisition of Formula 1.

Providing the other two hurdles are successfully cleared, the acquisition is expected to close before the end of the first quarter in 2017.
