Kevin Magnussen has been handed a 5s penalty for the move late in today's race which saw the Dane run wide and pass Daniil Kvyat in the process.

The Renault driver passed the Russian at Turn 12 having carried to much speed on the back straight and run wide, subsequently failing to give the position back.

The race stewards deemed that the Dane left the track at Turn 12 and gained a lasting advantage, a breach of Article 27.4 of the Sporting Regulations.

As well as imposing a 5s time penalty, which dropped the Renault from 11th back to 12th, behind Kvyat, the stewards awarded Magnussen 2 penalty points, bringing his total for the 12 month period to 4.

"We started with the plan for a one-stop strategy but we quickly realised that it wasn't the best option so we swapped to a two and finally a three-stop strategy," said the Dane.

"It was tougher on tyre wear than we predicted but that did mean I was able to have some fun at the end of the race on the super soft tyres – it was the most fun I've had in the car all season, being able to push hard to the chequered flag.

"It was a pretty decent race considering our qualifying position. The penalty is frustrating, but that's racing sometimes."
