Whilst Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg might have escaped punishment for their dramatic first lap crash, the stewards weren't as lenient when it came to Carlos Sainz and Kevin Magnussen.

The Spaniard, who delivered a great performance that saw him finish an excellent sixth, and threw a spanner (Spaniard?) in Ferrari's efforts following a sublime start, was reprimanded for leaving the pitlane while the red lights were still showing it as not yet open before the start of the race.

"The driver did leave the pit lane when the red light was displayed," said the stewards, "a reprimand was applied due to the fact that the driver stopped the car and did not gain any advantage."

A breach of Article 31.2 of the Sporting Regulations, Sainz' reprimand is his first of the current season.

Meanwhile, Magnussen, who finished 14th on the track, was demoted to 15th following a 10s time penalty.

Embarrassingly, the penalty was handed to the Dane for an incident involving his Renault teammate, Jolyon Palmer, which saw the Briton forced off track.

According to the stewards, Magnussen was on a new set of soft tyres, and Palmer was on an older set of hard tyres leaving the Dane with "significantly better grip and speed".

The Stewards determined that Magnussen could not have reasonably expected to make the corner of Turn 13 without colliding with his teammate, which was subsequently forced off the track.

The Stewards subsequently imposed a time penalty after the race as the cars were on the last lap - adding the time to his elapsed race time, thereby demoting him to 15th, and handed him 2 penalty points, his first for the 12 month period.
