Revealing a package of updates for Spain, Sergio Perez believes the VJM09 can be competitive on all tracks.

A highly impressive drive to ninth in Sochi, where he suffered a puncture in the opening lap melee which required an extra stop, saw Sergio Perez, in his one-hundredth Grand Prix, finally open his 2016 points account.

The Mexican is confident the two points score in Sochi will be the first of many.

"The car is evolving constantly," he told F1web.it, "we had some improvements already in Melbourne, and there is a new package of updates coming in Spain. These upgrades are all meant to improve the balance of the car and bring more performance.

"I think we saw an indication from the first few races that fast tracks with long straights and sharp corners seem to suit us better," he continued, "however, our car is pretty balanced and there is no reason to believe we cannot be competitive on all kinds of tracks."

After 100 Grand Prix with Force India, McLaren and Sauber, the Mexican's best championship finish was last year when he finished ninth. Asked if there were any regrets, he replied: "We are all human, so at some stage we are bound to make mistakes and take decisions that turn out to be wrong. I believe the key to improve is not to look back and cry over spilt milk, but to look forward, learn lessons and get stronger."
