Pirelli confirms Baku compounds

Pirelli has announced that it will take the P Zero White medium, P Zero Yellow soft and P Zero Red supersoft compounds to the eight round of the season in Azerbaijan, to be held on June 16-19 on the new street circuit in Baku.

Pirelli has said that the medium and soft must be used at some point in the race, whilst the supersofts are assigned for Q3 in qualifying.

Each driver must have a set of both the soft and must use at least one of them.

Each driver must save for Q3 one set of the supersofts, this set will be given back to Pirelli after Q3 for those who qualify in the top 10, but the remaining drivers will keep it for the race - as is the case currently.

The teams are free to choose the remaining sets; making up 13 sets in total for the weekend.

Under the new 2016 tyre regulations tyre nominations for long-haul events have to be made 14 weeks in advance, whereas for European races the deadline is eight weeks in advance.

Which, of course, makes a complete mockery of the fact that this is the European Grand Prix that we're talking about.
