Saturday 'action' under threat

Chances of any action at COTA today are looking increasingly slim.

As the heavy rain continues and local weather stations warn of flash floods, officials at the Circuit of the Americas this morning announced that the circuit would not open until noon (local time).

"For the safety of our fans and employees, today's opening has been delayed until noon. Further updates will be forthcoming," said officials on Twitter.

With FP3 due to start at 10:00 (local time), the session appears to have been cancelled even before it has begun. Furthermore, with qualifying due to start at 13:00 this too must be in doubt.

Heavy rain has lashed the area through the night and continues this morning, with forecasters saying it will remain all day.

Race Control has announced that a decision on whether FP3 will take place will be made at 09:30, though COTA officials appear to have already made the decision.
