McLaren pair get 'free' engines

Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button will have new engines this weekend... without fear of penalty.

The move follows the recent meeting of the World Motor Sport Council which ruled that Honda should benefit by the same rule their rivals enjoyed last year, the first season of the new formula, whereby each driver was allowed five engines (and components) before being penalised.

This year's rules see the limit lowered to four, and whilst Honda argued that as it was their first year they should therefore be allowed the same privilege as their rivals in 2014, it was not until the recent WMSC meeting that this was agreed.

Consequently, the pair, who both incurred massive grid penalties in Austria, which ultimately resulted in an overhaul of the rules, each get the benefit of a brand new engine for this weekend's race... with no penalties.
