Alonso back in McLaren simulator

During a visit to McLaren's Woking HQ, the team confirms Fernando Alonso will be in the simulator on Wednesday.

The Spaniard, who was hospitalised following a testing crash at Barcelona last month, an incident that remains one of the sport’s biggest mysteries, missed the season opening race in Melbourne on the advice of his doctors.

However, today he was at McLaren's MTC in Woking, prompting the team to take to Twitter.

Alongside a picture of the Spaniard with team boss Eric Boullier, the team revealed: "Spotted at #MTC: Fernando’s in the house today and will be in the simulator tomorrow".

A team spokesman subsequently confirmed the news. “We have a programme to help Fernando back to racing and he plans to be in a simulator”.

Despite a horrendous pre-season, and Kevin Magnussen's retirement on his way to the Melbourne grid, Jenson Button brought the MP4-30 home in eleventh (last) place on Sunday, albeit two laps behind the race winner, but having completed the best daily mileage the car has recorded to date.

Memo to Ron and the boys, whilst he's in the simulator ensure all windows and doors are kept closed... we don't want any sudden draughts do we?
