A McLaren spokesman has dismissed a claim in the Spanish media that Jenson Button has been told his contract will not be renewed at season end.

Spanish tabloid Marca alleges that "Dennis has told Button that his contract will not be renewed, and that he [Jenson] should now begin to look for an alternative drive".

Contacted by Pitpass a team spokesman at Woking dismissed the story as "complete and utter rubbish."

The story comes at the end of an interesting week for Button and McLaren. It began with Dennis firing a clear warning shot across the Briton's bow saying he should be beating his teammate on a regular basis.

Button hit back at the Thursday press conference with a touch of sarcasm, saying: "I think Ron's practicing to be a motivational speaker maybe", before reminding his boss that the MP4-29 is not a good car and that everyone should be raising their game.

On Saturday, against all odds, he claimed third on the grid for today's British Grand Prix, a race he has never won before.

This morning the pair were spotted watching the GP2 race together.
