Leave us in peace begs Schumacher's wife

Corinna Schumacher has called on the media to end its 'vigil' outside the Grenoble hospital where her husband is being treated.

Over a week after the seven-time champion was admitted to the hospital following his accident on the ski slopes, the media encampment outside shows no sign of dissipating.

While the family was "moved to tears" by a fan tribute on Friday (pictured) that went on late in to the night, the ever present media circus is clearly exasperating Schumacher's wife and those treating him. No stone has been left unturned - in some cases literally - with one member of the media allegedly trying to gain access to the German's room dressed as a priest.

This morning, clearly feeling that 'enough is enough', Mrs Schumacher called for the media to respect her family's privacy and to leave the hospital.

"Please support us in our joint struggle with Michael," she said in a statement. "It is important to me that you relieve the doctors and the hospital so they can work in peace.

"Please trust their statements and leave the hospital. Please also leave our family in peace."

Days after Schumacher's spokesperson, Sabine Kehm, was forced to dismiss media reports that the seven-time champion was “out of danger”, this morning sections of the German media again said there were signs of improvement even though the hospital insists that he remains "stable but critical".

Official investigating the accident are due to hold a press conference tomorrow (Wednesday).
