Jean Todt has confirmed that he will be seeking a second term as FIA president.

The Frenchman announced his intention the day after David Ward threw his hat in the ring, the Briton issuing a manifesto that promises sweeping changes to the organisation.

"There is no speculation, I will go for it," Todt told reporters at Monza. "Yesterday it was announced that campaigning for the election was opening. All our community knows and I have a lot of support."

Asked about his rival, who previously advised Max Mosley who supported Todt in his original bid for the presidency, the Frenchman replied: "In life you must respect freedom of everyone. So I really do respect him.”

When asked about the election on Friday, as is so often the case in Formula One, certainly when it comes to speaking on the record in public, most team bosses were supportive of Todt, even though, in the opinion of many, he has had little to do with the sport.

Behind the scenes, with as many as seven of the teams in financial difficulty, it is widely thought a major overhaul of the sport is needed if it is to survive.
