No DRS punishment for Button

Race stewards at Monza have opted to take no further action against Jenson Button for a perceived DRS infringement during FP1.

Shortly after the McLaren driver was advised by his team that he had a problem with his DRS flap sticking, the stewards announced that he was under investigation for using DRS in a non-DRS zone, a breach of Article 27.5 of the 2013 FIA Formula One Sporting Regulations.

However, they subsequently found that Button did not activate the DRS in the area concerned so no breach of Article 27.5 occurred, the stewards having accepted the evidence put forward by the team that, despite the DRS being shown as deactivated at the end of first DRS zone (the braking area for Turn 8) the hydraulic activation arm jammed against its carbon fibre cover, thereby preventing deactivation of the wing element.

The stewards also accepted that at no time did the system exceed the design restrictions required under Article 3.10.2 of the FIA Technical Regulations.
