The Circuit de Catalunya is to have a name change as a sponsorship deal is agreed with the local council and the circuit.

From today, the Circuit de Catalunya includes the city of Barcelona in its name and from now on will be called Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. The new name is a consequence of a sponsorship agreement signed between the Barcelona City Council and the Circuit, and the need to bind the tourist attractions of the city with the activities of the racetrack.

"The city of Barcelona has a lot of strength and a great international projection," said For Vicenç Aguilera, President of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya Consortium, "and therefore we believe that the new name, Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, will help us to boost the facilities much stronger, just as we have been doing in recent years with the promotion of the F1 and MotoGP Grands Prix."

The new corporate identity of Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya includes a new design of its logo, which includes the track layout, the representation of the map of Catalonia on a chequered flag and the name of the city of Barcelona.
