Dear Bernie....

NEWS STORY

While everyone is foaming at the Great Sepang Swindle, might we draw your attention to another matter that has been bothering F1 fans.

At a time when some teams are working hard to really engage fans, particularly through social media, there is one area where the sport has really let itself down in the last two weeks.

The live timing feature on your website, the official Formula One website (natch), has proved a real boon to fans and has added a whole new dimension to the sport.

However, for the duration of FP1 in Australia and much of FP2 in Malaysia fans were greeted with the message you see above.

Whilst we appreciate there have been technical problems at each of these events, this doesn't explain the failure to recognise fans frustrations.

This frustration was evident not only on Twitter and various fan forums but in emails sent to Pitpass, and no doubt many other websites.

Added to their frustration is not only the lack of acknowledgement by the official website that there was a problem, far less an apology, but the failure to respond to emails.

For those fans frantically trying to discover whether the failure of the Live Timing feature was down to the official F1 website or a fault with their own equipment it took the shine off the start of a much anticipated new season, especially the failure to give any information whatsoever during the very first session of the year.

Just thought you ought to know.
