The Australian motor sport season kicks off next weekend with a touring car race around the streets of Adelaide.

Using much of the old Grand Prix circuit the 'Clipsal' (as it's known locally) is one of the biggest weekends of the motor sport year in Australia as the City of Churches hosts V8 Supercars and a raft of support categories.

Supporting the V8 Supercars will be a GT race featuring Pitpass' own Christian Klien at the wheel of a Mercedes SLS GT car for Erebus motor sport.

It will be Klien's first race on the famed Adelaide street circuit, which for more than a decade played host to Formula One, and one the 30-year-old is looking forward to it.

"When I was growing up, I remember watching the Adelaide Grand Prix on television and it was a very challenging track, it has a lot of history in the sport with many of the great drivers having raced there," said Klien.

"I am very much looking forward to racing the Erebus Motorsport SLS AMG GT3 in Adelaide. I tested it just before the (Bathurst) 12 Hour and it is a beautiful Customer Sports car that AMG has built. It was the first chance I have had to drive a full GT3 car and to do this in the race will be very exciting."

Erebus has close links with Mercedes, the squad having brought the German marque to the V8 Supercar series this year. Indeed it's understood former Mercedes motor sport boss Norbert Haug was a special guest at the team's V8 Supercar launch, as well as being spotted in the Bathurst paddock.

Klien will enter the event as one of the favourites, the Erebus squad having recently claimed outright victory at the Bathurst 12hr.
