The Grand Prix of America, scheduled to take place on the streets of Weehawken in New Jersey next June, has been postponed until 2014.

Although the official announcement will not be made until Friday morning, when the mayors of Weehawken and West New York will break the news, regular readers of Pitpass will be aware that such a move has been expected for some time. Tonight, ahead of tomorrow's statement, Weehawken Mayor Richard Turner confirmed the news to the Jersey Journal.

While there have been questions over the funding of the event, which have been denied by the organisers, it is now understood that repairs to the roads that will form the track are behind schedule as is the granting of permits for the 3.2 mile track.

Though the race was featured on the 2013 schedule recently issued by the World Motor Sport Council, it was made clear that the event, which would have taken place one week after the Canadian Grand Prix, was yet to be officially confirmed.
