He may be trailing Fernando Alonso by 42 points in the championship but reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel believes anything is possible as the season moves in to its second half.

Educated opinion is that Red Bull enjoys a car advantage over its rivals however, an alternator failure in Valencia while leading and a calamitous race in Malaysia has left Vettel chasing Alonso's inferior Ferrari in the points table.

"The one who is leading is always the one that everyone is after," said Vettel. "I think he's in a good position but we still have a lot of races to go."

Having dominated the 2011 season many had expected the 25-year-old to be the class of the field once again in 2012, however regulation changes have closed the field and made for a more competitive championship fight. While the unpredictable racing is good news for the fans Vettel is hoping he can exploit it in order to gain the ground he lost in the first half of the year.

"I think it's a better position, or a better championship in that regard; to be able to catch up rather than if you have only two cars that work properly and the first four are always given," said the German. "I think the way the racing has been this year you can catch up points pretty quickly.

""Right now obviously we are in the position that we are and we'll do our best from here," he added. "We still have a lot of races to go. I think we are very hungry to come out fast at the end of the season."
