Grid penalty for Perez

Sergio Perez has joined the ever growing list of drivers who will take a grid penalty ahead of tomorrow's German Grand Prix.

The Mexican was deemed to have impeded both pole sitter Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen during the second phase of qualifying, a fact which generally incurs the wrath of the stewards. However given the difficult conditions which saw a number of drivers impeded officials decided only to penalise the Sauber driver after being involved in two similar offences in the same session.

Perez had qualified twelfth, one spot ahead of his teammate Kamui Kobayashi, but will now start seventeenth as a result of the penalty.

Elsewhere the stewards handed McLaren's Jenson Button a 2,500 euro fine for crossing a white line when exiting the pits at the start of the final phase of qualifying, again being lenient in view of the difficult wet conditions.

Button had qualified seventh fastest, though, thanks to Mark Webber's five place penalty for an overnight gearbox change, will line up sixth for tomorrows race.
