Virgin has been fined 5000 euros for the unsafe release of Timo Glock during yesterday's Brazilian GP.

Following the German's first scheduled pit stop, he had just passed the white line that marks the end of the pitlane and the beginning of the track when his left-rear wheel became detached having not been securely tightened.

Unable to get the car back to the pits, because the car was effectively back on the race track, Glock's race was over.

The stewards, who included former F1 star and Le Mans winner Alex Wurz, subsequently ruled that Glock had been unsafely released, a breach of Article 23.1 (j) of the 2011 FIA Formula One Sporting Regulations, and handed the Russian team a 5000 euro fine.
