Having been dropped in favour of Bruno Senna, Nick Heidfeld has confirmed that he will be taking legal action against the Lotus Renault GP team.

With the British team having officially confirmed on Wednesday evening that Heidfeld would be replaced by the Brazilian youngster, there was some degree of surprise when the German arrived in the paddock today wearing his team gear.

While Senna was telling reporters at the official FIA press conference that he is confirmed for this weekend and Monza, Heidfeld was explaining his version of the situation.

"I have a contract with them as a main driver and that's why I am here," he told Reuters. When asked if he might be back in the R31 this season he added: "Yes, because we have court proceedings pending.

"I can't tell you a lot," he continued, "the main hearing will be in about three weeks and we will have a decision then and my position is that I have a valid contract and I want to drive."

Asked when he first learned of the decision to drop him he refused to comment, only saying that when he heard the news he was taken by surprise, feeling that the decision was driven by money more than anything else.
