It is reported that Robert Kubica intends to attend a special ceremony next month at which John Paul II is beatified.
The Pole has received an invitation to the ceremony from the Polish Pope's long-time aid, Cardinal Stanislaw Dziwisz and has told staff at the hospital in Pietra Ligure that he intends attending.
Kubica, who was injured in a horrific rallying crash in Italy in February is said to have astounded staff at the hospital with the speed at which he is recovering from his extensive injuries.
The ceremony takes place in Rome on May 1.
