Hamilton and Alonso penalised

Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso have both been penalised following their clash in today's race.

Hamilton has been punished for changing direction twice while defending his position again the Spaniard, thereby breaching Article 20.2 of the 2011 FIA Formula One Sporting Regulations.

The Ferrari driver was punished for causing a collision with the McLaren driver a lap later, an incident as defined by Article 16.1 of the 2011 FIA Formula One Sporting Regulations.

Both drivers were handed drive through penalties, imposed after the race in accordance with Article 16.3 - 20 seconds added to elapsed time.

While Alonso still retains 6th place, Hamilton drops to eighth promoting Kobayashi to seventh.
