Despite continued speculation linking German manufacturer Volkswagen to F1, the company has ruled out the idea whilst also dismissing similar talk regarding NASCAR.

According to Reuters, speaking yesterday, head of technical development at Volkswagen, Ulrich Hackenberg, when asked about talk of the German company expanding its motorsport activities to include F1 and NASCAR said: "Nothing for us. There is certainly the one or the other person out there in the world that would wish for that, but we don't have that on the programme.

"I should know what I am talking about," he added, "since it would come out of my budget."

The VW Group - previously known as VAG - is the third biggest manufacturer of cars in the world and its subsidiaries include Audi, Seat, Skoda, Lamborghini, Bugatti and Bentley.
