The judge presiding over the Lotus naming rights row in the High Court in London has ordered the case to go to a full trial.

The case is made up of a number of issues including intellectual property, licensing of a name, branding, legal process and ownership of legacy and history. However, to the shock of the assembled legal teams the judge presiding, Mr Justice Peter Smith said: "Let's get this whole thing sorted in one go". That said, he did urge the various parties to try and settle the dispute before the season begins.

With the case due to begin on March 21, almost two weeks after the season opening Bahrain Grand Prix, this sorry affair looks set to overshadow the first phase of the new season.
