Vitaly Petrov has been handed a 5-place grid penalty for the Korean Grand Prix after being adjudged as causing an accident at the start of today's Japanese Grand Prix.

The Russian was seen to hit Nico Hulkenberg's car as the field left the grid subsequently spearing into the barriers on the left hand side of the main pit straight.

The stewards, who include former F1 star and Le Mans winner Alex Wurz, having investigated the incident, ruled that Petrov caused the collision, as defined by Article 16.1 of the 2010 FIA Formula One Sporting Regulations, and handed the Russian a 5-place grid penalty for the next race.

They also investigated the first corner incident involving Felipe Mass and Tonio Liuzzi but after hearing the explanation of both the drivers representatives and the drivers decided that the incident required no further action.
