There was further post race drama in Singapore after Force India's Adrian Sutil was penalised 20 seconds for gaining an advantage after running off the circuit on lap one. Handed a 'drive through penalty' after the race, Sutil had 20 seconds added to his final time, however his Force India team subsequently appealed the decision.

The team also asked race stewards to investigate Nico Hulkenberg, who they claim left the circuit on the opening lap, gaining an advantage in the process.

The stewards subsequently investigated the allegation, finding the Williams driver had indeed gained an advantage after leaving the circuit, and handed Hulkenberg a drive through penalty, applied retrospectively to the results by way of 20 seconds being added to his finishing time.

The outcome means Felipe Massa finished in eighth place for Ferrari, while Sutil was placed ninth and Hulkenberg tenth. Vitaly Petrov was a lap down, and as a result did not benefit from the stewards' decision, remaining eleventh for Renault.
