Even a bout of tonsillitis couldn't prevent world champion Jenson Button completing the London Triathlon yesterday.

The McLaren driver completed the course, which takes place around numerous London landmarks including Big Ben, Tower Bridge and the London Eye, in 2hrs 14:15, around seven minutes slower than last year.

“I wasn’t feeling very well at the start of the week, which is why I have come in a bit slower than last time round,” he said after the charity event. “I really didn’t want to miss out on the weekend, though, as I had such a fantastic time here last year, so I just decided to battle through it.”

The event, which was won by Australian Courtney Atkinson (1hr 49:3), and was watched by around 55,000 spectators, is now its 14th year and is said to be the biggest in the world.

Well done Jenson!
