Jenson Button is one of nine drivers penalised by the Race Stewards in Valencia for breaching the Safety Car rules during today's European Grand Prix.

Button, Rubens Barrichello, Robert Kubica, Adrian Sutil, Sebastien Buemi, Pedro de la Rosa, Vitaly Petrov, Nico Rosberg and Vitantonio Liuzzi have been penalised for failing to stay above the minimum time set by the FIA ECU when the Safety Car was deployed.

The Stewards met with each driver and a team representative, considered the evidence and decided that there was a breach of Article 40.7 of the 2010 FIA Formula One Sporting Regulations.

The penalties mean that - as far as the point scorers are concerned - Alonso is promoted from ninth to eighth, while Nico Rosberg leapfrogs de la Rosa and Petrov to take tenth.
