In an attempt to help Michael Schumacher improve his form, Mercedes are to run the German in a different chassis in the forthcoming Spanish Grand Prix.

Talking in London today, team boss Ross Brawn revealed that the seven-time champion is to be given a chassis previously used in testing.

"It's not a new chassis per se, it's a chassis we used in testing," he told reporters at a fund-raising event for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) in London..

"The one he had got damaged during the first few races and we repaired it as best we could at the races. But now we are back at base we are going to re-introduce the test chassis and he will be using that in Barcelona."

The Englishman revealed that along with a major aero upgrade for both cars, the wheelbase on the German's car would be changed in an attempt to improve weight distribution and thereby the car's handling.

Thus far, Schumacher has been out-qualified at all four events by his teammate, Nico Rosberg, who has also out-performed in the races, giving the Brackley-based German team two podium finishes.
