Newly elected Grand Prix Drivers' Association (GPPDA) chairman, Nick Heidfeld, has admitted that he cannot get used to the idea of watching F1 from the sidelines.

Speaking to Pitpass earlier today, the 166 race veteran said: "I don't think I will ever get used to it," when asked his thoughts on being a reserve driver, albeit with the Mercedes Grand Prix team.

"But you never know what will happen," he continued. "You have to keep your eyes open, and obviously it's more realistic to look ahead to next year. For the moment however, I will try and support the team as best I can and obviously hope for the future."

Earlier today it was revealed that the German, who made his F1 debut with the ill-fated Prost team in 2000, having won the F3000 Championship in 1999, was elected chairman of the GPDA. Ironically, he replaces Pedro de la Rosa, the man who effectively took his seat at Sauber.
