Mark Webber has dismissed speculation that he is intending to retire at the end of the season.

From the minute the F1 'circus' pitched tent in Melbourne the speculation began, reaching a crescendo on Wednesday when Lewis Hamilton commented that the Australian - one of eight drivers in serious contention for the title this year - might choose to quit the sport on a high at the end of the season.

However, talking to reporters in Melbourne ahead of Sunday's big race, the veteran, who made his F1 debut in 2002 with Minardi - finishing fifth on his debut, coincidentally, the Australian Grand Prix - Webber dismissed the talk.

"I have no intention at all of retiring give or take whatever season I have," he said. "So it's Lewis's opinion and he's free to have that, I don't have a big problem with what he said.

"I'm very happy at the moment," he added, "enjoying driving for the guys that I am driving for, so it's a very, very good situation for me at the moment."
