F1 fans may think that there are few corners of the globe where the sport would not go to, given that the calendar has expanded to such far flung places as Singapore, Abu Dhabi and now South Korea. Before F1 went to Bahrain the country enjoyed a lower profile in the media and the same may even be true of Malaysia so one country which could clearly do with the reputational boost which F1 brings is Iraq. But the sport would never go there would it?

After a recent meeting with F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone Pitpass' business editor Chris Sylt was walking down Brompton Road in London with the F1 supremo when an unusual encounter took place.

A cigar-chomping dignitary wearing a pin of the Iraqi flag in his suit stopped Ecclestone in the street thrusting his business card into his hand before adding "I am one of the admirers of Formula One and we wish that one day you make it to Iraq." Ecclestone thanked him and then walked on as if nothing had happened. Watch this space.
