While the future of both US F1 and Campos Meta remains in doubt, Stefan GP boss Zoran Stefanovich has called on the FIA to allow a 14th slot on the 2010 grid in order that his team might take part.

"We think this is the best way to solve the problem," Stefanovich told the Sun, indicating that the Serb isn't quite as dubious about the futures of Campos and US F1 as the rest of us.

"We are absolutely aware that the system of granting entries is through the FIA," he added. "So we are not expecting someone to give us an entry immediately."

Whatever happens in terms of the two teams that have secured slots on the 2010 grid, it is a fact that Bernie Ecclestone has already been won over by Stefanovich, the F1 supremo claiming that the team would have the backing of the Serbian government.

While the team is scheduled to test in Portugal at the end of this month, it will also be sending basic equipment to Bahrain in case it is given a last minute entry.

While US F1 has gone extremely quiet following the wave of activity in the wake of Ecclestone's comments in December, when he said that he remained doubtful as to whether the team would make it to the grid, there is a little more activity in terms of Campos.

With A1 GP boss Tony Teixeira now totally ruled out - A1GP Holdings having been put into the hands of administrators Bridge Business Recovery last Wednesday - it looks as though Jose Carabante - the man who funded Campos' entry - may be the man to keep the team's F1 ambitions on track though this would not involve the man after whom the team is named.

Indeed, it is understood that Dallara has recommenced work on the chassis it was building for Campos with the strict intention of being on the grid in Bahrain and that an announcement could be made in the next few days.
