Campos: People are saying stupid things

While admitting that his team is facing a struggle, Adrian Campos insists that he and his colleagues are working hard to ensure Campos Meta is on the grid in Bahrain next month.

For as long as anyone can remember there has been speculation as to whether Campos and US F1 will make it to the 2010 grid, with F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone consistently one of the leading sceptics.

However, while US F1 has at least updated its website, maintained a blog and issued a number of insights via YouTube, the silence from Campos has been deafening.

Today, following numerous new rumours, including tales of Dallara selling Campos' chassis to Serbian hopeful Stefan GP, Adrian Campos has broken his silence… well sort of.

"We are trying to have everything solved on Monday," he told BBC Sport. "We are working very hard to be in Bahrain for the first race."

Asked about the continued speculation, he replied: "People are saying a lot of stupid things. Some are true and some are not."

While he was unwilling to give any further information about talk of A1 GP boss Tony Teixeira buying into his team, he did at least try to curb the Dallara story admitting that while there were problems with the Italian manufacturer there was a contract in place which prevented it selling the Campos chassis to a third party, including Stefan GP.

"No, they can't do that," he said, "we have a contract with them." When asked about reports that his company is behind in its payment to Dallara, he added: "Sometimes we pay the 7m euro (instalment) to Dallara and sometimes we don't have the money. We are trying to solve the problem."

With the season opener exactly five weeks away and Bruno Senna already signed, it's a worrying situation, no matter what Mr Campos might say.

Furthermore despite the FIA's assurance that the proper due diligence was carried out in respect of all new teams, one has to wonder how on earth established outfits such as Lola, Prodrive and Epsilon Euskadi failed to make the cut.
