FIA presidency hopeful Ari Vatanen has denied that he wants to change the election procedure.

"Like I wrote in my manifesto, I do not have any intention whatsoever to change the election procedure for the FIA presidency," he said today. "The only change I want to make is to abandon the requirement to come up with the long lists of vice presidents that is currently in place. That makes it practically impossible to dethrone an incumbent president.

"The president should stay in power only thanks to the trust of the members," he added, "not by artificial legislative measures. But I don't see any need to change the procedure in itself."

Asked about increasing the voting power of the larger clubs, he replied: "I can only repeat: I have no intention to change things. I have been in politics long enough to be familiar with all the many different voting systems there are, and the FIA has chosen one of them, which is fine with me. The main thing is that the FIA is a democratic organisation and it is my aim to ensure that it is being run like every democratic organisation ought to be run."
