It is understood that John Iley, chief aerodynamicist with Ferrari, has left the Maranello outfit following the failure of the F60 in the 2009 championship.

Iley, who began his motorsport career with Brun in Sportscars in 1990 and continued with a spell at HRS (Newman Haas) in Indycars before joining Jordan in 1997, joined Ferrari in late 2003 after a two year sting with Renault.

Both Ferrari drivers have complained of a lack of downforce almost since the start of the season, with no apparent improvement in recent races.

It is believed that Iley, who will spend the next six months on 'gardening leave', will be replaced by chief designer Nikolas Tombazis, who returned to Maranello in early 2006, his second stint with the Maranello outfit.

Iley's departure comes just three months after Luca Baldisserri was moved from his position as head of racing operations.
