Bernie Ecclestone continues to play his 'good cop' role to perfection, dismissing Max Mosley's claim that Formula One can survive without Ferrari.

"Formula One is Ferrari and Ferrari is Formula One," the F1 supremo told reporters in Barcelona. "It's just a marriage made in heaven, one of those super things that work well."

Referring to the ongoing spat between the FIA President and Luca di Montezemolo, President of Ferrari and the Formula One Teams' Association (FOTA), over the governing body's plan to introduce a £40m budget cap in 2010, Ecclestone said: "I don't think Max really meant what he said, he was just having a little go at Luca."

Referring to the Maranello outfit's current problems, Ecclestone remains confident that the team will turn things around even though it is still clearly suffering following the end of the Schumacher - Todt - Brawn - Byrne era.

"They'll catch up," he said. "I think with Todt gone, we've gone a little bit back to the way it was before Todt went there."
