Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo has expressed his confidence in the team, saying he has faith in the Maranello outfit to have the capacity to react after its troubled weekend in Australia.

Montezemolo was speaking to journalists this morning at the presentation of Arrigo Levi's book "Un paese non basta" at the Modena city hall. He spoke of the disappointment of Melbourne and his hopes for the race in Sepang this weekend.

"On a more normal circuit I expect to see the real balance of power on the track," he said. "The first race went worse than expected: there's no doubt that we, just like McLaren, are paying for the fact that we had to work on the 2008 car right until the end of the season, while the others could completely concentrate on the project of the new car, which has nothing to do with the old one.

"We made too many mistakes at Melbourne," he admitted, "but I'm convinced, I'm sure, that there will be a tough reaction from our side. I trust the team and I know that they are working very hard: we'll see the fruits already on next Sunday."

Montezemolo also spoke about the discussions as far as the diffusers, used by Williams, Toyota and Brawn, are concerned, and which the FIA will rule on in Paris next month.

"I want certainty," he said. "It's not right to start a season with question marks as far as the rules are concerned. If the diffusers conform to the rules it has to be said and decided as soon as possible, but we and other teams don't think so; or they do not conform to the rules and in this case also it has to be cleared up as quickly as possible. Who interprets the rules not in line with them, creates a performance inequality, which is unacceptable."
