Points row embarrassing for the sport says Domenicali

Ferrari team boss Stefano Domenicali believes the volte face regarding the points system for 2009 is embarrassing for the sport.

Last week, just 72-hours after the FIA announced that the 2009 World Championship would be decided on a 'winner takes all' basis, the sport's governing body was forced to reverse the ruling after the Formula One Teams' Association objected.

"It seems embarrassing to me what has happened in the last few days," Domenicali told Gazzetta dello Sport.

"We wanted a bigger difference between the winner and the others," he added, referring to FOTA's own proposal for the points system, "instead it stays like 2008. We have to have patience."

However, if Domenicali believes the points system U-turn was embarrassing, he'll be aware of the potential fall-out should the Melbourne weekend sees teams lodging protests over the legality of the diffusers being used by three of their rivals.

"We are convinced that certain interpretations that have been applied do not correspond to the nature of the rules," he said. "There needs to be a great sense of responsibility on everyone's part. I hope this issue can be resolved quickly."
